Meeqat 
 
The Meeqat is the place where every person who go for performing Haj and umrah to Mecca (The holy city) must wear their ihram . The outsiders) while entering into Mecca must be in Ihram before meeqat. If anyone crosses meeqat without being in Ihram, he will have to return back to meeqat to put on Ihram, otherwise he will commit a sin and will have to sacrifice animal.
There are 5 meeqat located around the sacred territory of Mecca, for those traveling to Mecca from different places throughout the world.
Hadith
Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said ,''the Miqat for the people of Madinah is Dhul Hulaifah, for the people of Sham is Al Jahfah, for the people of Najd is Qarn Al Manzil and for the people of Yemen is Yalamlam.

It is meeqat for those people who come from Madina to Mekkah.It  is 450km to the north of Makkah . It is also called Mosque shajra because there is a tree in the shadow of which Holy Prophet (PBUH) took rest.It is twelve kilometer from Madina.

2 - Johfa or Rabigh

Those people who come from Syria or cairo, Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon wear Ihram from this meeqat.It is is 187km north-west of Makkah people also call it Rabigh. 


3- Qurnel Manazir

It is meeqat for those outsiders who come from Najaf and Taif.People take their Ihram here. It is 94km to the east of Makkah overlooking Arafah. 


4-Zat-al-Iraq 

It is meeqat for those people who come for Hajj and umrah from Iraq or Mesopotamia. It is 94km to the north-east of Makkah. 


5 – Yalamlam

It is meeqat for those people who come the side of India, Pakistan and Yaman to Mecca. Those traveling from Pakistan, must put on Ihram at their homes or on airport before boarding on aircraft, because aircraft traveling from Pakistan to Jeddah has to fly over meeqat before reaching to Jeddah.They can also wear Ihram before reaching to Jedda when aeroplane fly over the Meeqat. At that time captain of the airoplane announced to wear Ihram . It is 54km to the south of Makkah .
Any person (not present in Makkah) who wishes to come from far to perform Umra, will have to put on the Ihram from any one of the following Meeqat (places appointed by Sharia). if for any reason whatsoever, one happens to enter into the state of ‘ehram’ for pilgrimage after the ‘meeqat’ one would have to offer a sacrifice as an atonement for their violation of the rites of the pilgrimage.
